Switching to another bank

For clients closing their current account(s) with Citi, we would like to make the process as easy as possible. Citi has joined the Current Account Switch Service which is simple, reliable and free to use - allowing you to switch your current account in 7 working days.

To get started you’ll need to open an account with a participating bank or building society, including arranging an overdraft if you need one, and then choose a switch date that suits you. Once those arrangement are in place, you’ll need to make the request via your new bank (please note you’ll need to choose the Current Account Switch Service - “Full Switch” not the Payment Transfer Service - “Partial Switch” option).

The Current Account Switch Guarantee ensures your new bank will switch your payments and transfer your balance and we will take care of closing your old account. Both Citi and your new bank will keep you up to date with progress and let you know if we encounter any problems.

Importantly, the most common problems revolve around information not matching between the new and old banks, so it is worth ensuring your account information with us is up to date and that you provide the same details to your new bank.

Please also be aware that if you have “internal transfers” – i.e. if you have regular payments made from one Citi account to another – they will not be switched as part of this service and you’ll need to set them up again with your new provider.

For more information you can visit the Current Account Switch Service website where you may find their Help & Support page particularly useful.

Please note that the Current Account Switch Service only supports the transfer of current accounts. If you have investments with Citi that you wish to transfer to another provider, you can initiate that process using our Investment Transfer Form.
